He describes someone standing at a blackboard drawing circles and arcs. "Sounds like Eric Hughes," I thought as I read this. The reporter left. Oh, yes, that was me. Details: It was an overhead projector, not a blackboard. He's right about circles and arcs; I was describing the basics of proxy-based communications (aka remailers) and their threat models. The panel was Bob Stratton, me, Matt Blaze, and Bernie S., who had the AT&T clipperphones (that he couldn't get the audio levels to match on). Wired 2.11 has an article by Charles Platt about HOPE. Well, I have a true story about Charles Platt. I had finished my presentation, and Matt was in the middle of speaking when some drunk in the back started shouting "BORING! BORING!". He didn't shut up. He then started in with "WHERE'S THE CRIME?" Matt handled this rather well, I thought, and simply refused to go on, triggering reasonably quick audience "peer pressure". Who? Charles Platt. After the session, he came up to me and said, "Plus, you don't have very nice buttocks." I am not making this up. Eric
